I grew up in Barcelona and have always been drawn to the world of coding and software development. I loved the logic and creativity it demanded, so I pursued a degree in computer science. Upon graduating, I secured a position at a reputable tech company in the city.
From the beginning, I faced obstacles that my male counterparts did not. My ideas were often overlooked in meetings, while the same suggestions were praised when echoed by male colleagues. As much as I tried to contribute, I felt a subtle barrier holding me back.
One particular project stands out in my memory. I was the lead developer on a major software rollout, and despite my technical expertise, my authority was constantly questioned. There were moments when I felt my confidence waning, but I knew I couldn't let these challenges define me.
I sought mentors, both male and female, who provided guidance and advice. I also connected with other women in tech, sharing our experiences and supporting each other through tough times. Slowly, I began to assert myself more confidently.
As I continued to push through these challenges, I experienced moments of triumph. When my team successfully launched the software, the sense of accomplishment was indescribable. It was a reminder that my voice and contributions mattered.
My journey taught me the importance of resilience, self-advocacy, and building a support network. Today, I'm proud to say I've advanced in my career and work in a leadership position. My journey is ongoing, and I strive to create an inclusive environment for those who come after me.
